The Children Are Killing Themselves - Are You Part of the Problem or the Solution?

I woke up this morning and sifted through articles to read.  The article listed below immediately caught my attention and startled me.  However, upon writing notes and as I thought about the questions floating in my mind such as "Why?"  It hit me like a ton of bricks.  I was reminded that I could provide some answers to the question "Why?" based on my experience.  As a 12 year old, I attempted to commit suicide.  I have dealt with a challenging son, whom also contemplated committing suicide - and wrote the book, A Mother's Cry: He's Still My Child.  I have been a N.C. Guardian ad Litem - advocating for children in the Department of Social Service's custody.  I have been a therapeutic foster care provider.  I currently am taking care of two grandsons - one whom is challenging.  I say all of this to say, sometimes when we are looking for others to do certain things, we simply need to look within self.  Most often where you heart and passion is - is where God has called you to be instrumental in helping others.  I believe life's experiences are to equip us to carry out God's assigned purpose for my life.  Nothing happens unless God allows it and He allows it for his purpose and glory.

There is plenty of work to do, but the laborers are few.  The children need us.  They are crying out for help.  So, look within yourself and determine what assets you have to offer.  Starting at home, as parents, are we nurturing the children?  Are we giving them time and attention,  a healthy and safe environment, building the self esteem, helping with homework, and listening to them?  Churches - are we investing in the children - introducing them to God and His expectations for us as a human race?  Are we teaching them how to endure the battlefields of this life?   In school, are we providing the best quality educational experience?  Are we non-discriminatory, nurturing, and showing patience?  In the community, are we standing in the gap?  Are we supportive in all of the above - regardless that they are not our children?  Are we all remembering the difference?  We were all once a child - but in a different time and era.  In the midst of all the turmoil and chaos around us, we must not be distracted from the children.  Stop.  Seriously ask yourself - "Am I investing in the solution or am I part of the problem?
